Rockford Continues Downtown Renovations

Downtown landscaping renovations and a $4.7 million redevelopment project is set to provide additional housing to the area and draw more business to downtown Rockford.

The redevelopment project, which was approved by the city in March and is set to begin this summer, will provide 10,000 square feet of storefront space and 20 high-end housing units on Seventh Street and Third Avenue downtown.

$11 Million Plan Would Improve Rockford Housing

The Rockford Register Star reports that the Rockford Housing Authority is preparing to submit an application to obtain $11 million in federal HOPE VI grant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Rockford Housing Authority plans to improve the Brewington Oaks housing project and revitalize a neighborhood on the southeast side of Rockford. If the federal government approves the plans submitted by the Rockford Housing authority, Rockford residents could see the plans beginning to take shape next year.

Improvements for Rock Valley College

Governor Pat Quinn appeared in Rockford to talk about the new Rock Valley College Arts Instructional Center, which will be built with state capital plan money. The Rockford Register Star reported that the building will serve to consolidate music, art, and theater programming, which is currently scattered throughout the Rock Valley College campus.
