In a very surprising move, Pope Benedict, 85, has announced today that he is resigning at the end of the month. This decision is shocking because no pope has stepped down since 1414, nearly 600 years ago. Popes usually don’t quit, they die in office. This is so rare that the Church does not even know what to call him when he leaves. One possibility being floated is “Bishop Emeritus of Rome.”
The collapse of the economy has affected seemingly everyone in this country, but most would think that the super wealthy could withstand it. However, there has been a rash of famous athletes that are going bankrupt, or having their lavish homes foreclosed upon. Allen Iverson, of NBA fame, recently had his large home foreclosed on. The newest addition to this list is Jevon Kearse. Known as “The Freak” during his playing days, Kearse is a product from University of Florida and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 1999.
The U.S. Postal Service has struggled financially and now, in an attempt save more money, they have announced they will be ending mail delivery on Saturdays. The new Monday-Friday routes will begin in August, and it is estimated that this move will save USPS up to $2 billion per year. Package delivery will still continue on Saturdays and Post Offices now open on Saturdays will continue to remain open on Saturdays.

As far-fetched as this story seems, China’s pollution has gotten so bad that Chinese billionaire Chen Guangbiao has begun selling clean air in a can. The air is captured from non-polluted regions of China, including Tibet, and then is inserted into cans to be sold. There is a special chip in the can that allows the workers to push the air into the can and have it remain there. The name of the product, “Good Person Chen Guangbiao,” is as ridiculous as the product itself.
